This striking vintage mask was hand-carved by the Ejagham (Ekoi) people of the Cross River region spanning southeastern Nigeria and western Cameroon. Traditionally used by respected regulatory societies such as Ekpe to uphold community law, mark funeral rites, and honor ancestors, Ejagham masks are renowned worldwide for their expressive realism and elaborate superstructures.

This piece features a bold face topped with sweeping, richly textured horns and vertical crest plumes. The carved features include almond-shaped slit eyes, a defined nose, and an open mouth with visible carved teeth, all set within heavy circular hair knots. A deep, naturally aged patina is accented with earth-pigment crimson highlights, giving the mask a weathered, museum-quality finish.
